Israel
Our guide was the first person we met in Israel, he drove us from the airport to our hotel. A tour guide by trade, he was driving because all tours have been canceled. He offered to take us on tours over the weekend, assuring us he know where the safe places were. We took him up on it, and were not disappointed.
Our guide could not enter
Bethlehem due to the tensions there, but arranged for us to meet another tour guide friend of his at the border. Bethlehem
reminded me of how Steve King described his memory of Tel Aviv. There were piles of rubble where buildings used to be, vacant buildings full of bullet
holes. And, as we were leaving, gunfire in the not too far distance.
The Dead Sea was our first tour. My ears popped going from 1000 meters above to 400 meters below sea level in the space of about 10 miles. We saw
nomads with camels and donkeys or mules.
We only saw the safe areas of
Jerusalem There was a lot we didn't see. Also, I was anxious to hit the beach and Saturday afternoon was my only chance.
:-)
We stayed in
Tel Aviv where Motorola Israel is located. The switch site was about an hour to an hour and a half south of there. Traffic there is as bad as
ours.
The FOA Team. A great bunch of guys!
We really did spend a lot of time at work, but since cameras aren't allowed either in Motorola or at the customer switch site, there is no evidence of it. You'll just have to take my word for it. We really did earn the relaxing times we had.
I did not reset my camera to local time. Add 8 hours to the time displayed on each picture. Click on the pictures for a larger view.
